Short for Extensible Markup Language, a markup language much like HTML, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Where HTML was designed to display data, XML was designed to describe data.

XML allows designers to create their own customized tags, enabling the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations.

On this website the details of a recipe in the recipes section, can also be shown as a XML document.
